Send all your news to news@cyclingnw.com The Weekly Report, September 10, 2008 UW Cycling Club to host Bicycle Racing Documentary SEATTLE, WA: The University of Washington Cycling Team is going to show Evan Schmitt's new film, Remember 2 Breathe, Friday September 19th at 7 pm in the Walker Ames Room 225 in Kane Hall on the beautiful U of Washington campus. The film will run 70 minutes and there will be food and beverages provided. $10 for general admission and $15 if you want beer. After the film, there will be a social hour where guests can meet some of the stars of the film. So far the list includes Bissell Pro Cycling's Morgan Schmitt and Former U-23 National Champion Troy Wells. Here's the details: When: Friday September 19th, 2008, 7pm (The night before Starcrossed) Where: Walker Ames Room in Kane Hall (Room #225), North Side of Red Square, UW Seattle Campus How Much: $10 for food and soft drink, $15 includes beer What the film is about: Hot on the wheels of his first international success ONE, young filmmaker Evan Schmitt returns with his new film, Remember 2 Breathe. Follow Schmitt on his journey to new places and races and meet the stars of bicycle racing. From grassroots to top-tier racing, get an inside look at the people who make up the sport and watch races in the most extreme weather conditions. See you there! -Evan Schmitt & The University of Washington Cycling Club National Champ Shootout at Star Crossed & Rad Racing GP The current and previous two US Men National Cyclocross Champions are planning to attend Star Crossed and Rad Racing GP. Current champ Tim Johnson (Cyclocrossworld.com/Cannondale) will be met at the start line by '06 champion, Ryan Trebon (Kona) and '05 champion Todd Wells (GT). NACT Weekend #1 is starting the season off right with the best talent in North American 'Cross. "We are thrilled that the legends of modern cross have chosen to start their seasons with us, our weekend is going to be a "battle royal" on two very different courses that will favor different riders" remarks Jim Brown of Rad Racing. Todd Wells, a US Olympian on the Mountain Bike, is on high form after finishing 5th in Cross Country at the Canberra, Australia MTB World Cup on August 30th. The fast starting Ryan Trebon should also be ready to put the pressure on Johnson as defending USGP of Cyclocross and CrossVegas champ. Current National Cross Country Champ Adam Craig will also add a bit of spice to the race. A former runner up at the event is coming off the Olympics and a great year on the World Cup circuit. Upcoming Cycle U Cross Clinics Star Crossed Sponsor Cycle U has several upcoming cross clinics. Get out there and improve your skills at Cross 101 on 9/13 and Cross Bootcamp on 9/4, 9 or 11. Cross 101 This is an on-bike introduction class to teach you the basic skills of getting on and off your bike, how to run and get over the barriers. A great way to keep your summer fitness going in the fall. Cost: $30. Clinic held at Cycle U Training Facilities located in Magnuson Park . You don't need a cross bike to do this class. You can bring any road, mountain, hybrid or junker bike you want. Includes a free pass to try a local race and everything you need to get started. Great family event with free kids racing at each venue. Cross Bootcamp Top local coaches, hands on coaching and ideal workouts give you everything you need to rock the cross season. Open to any level, new or experienced, join us every Tuesday and Thursday for 6 weeks, starting Tuesday August 5th for conditioning and skills that will have you confident, fit and ready for your best cross season yet! Topics include: -starting techniques -cornering and descending in all conditions -visualization and self-talk coaching -riding in sand -barriers and transitions -gear and equipment, taking care of your bike -ideal workouts and intervals in every session Taught by some of the best cross racers around including Craig Undem WA State champion and Worlds Team 06, Kristi Berg State Series Champion 5 years, Toby Swanson Worlds Team member State Champ and other great Cycle U coaches. |
